I tried hundreds of proxies over many months. All I got out of it was a lot of frustration as they got blocked in short order. Well I got one more thing and that was a virus from one of them that wrecked my HD. Even when they worked for a while they were slow and didn’t support all the web site features. My friend in Riyadh told me about the Personal VPN. She’s kind of an expert on unblocking sites because she lives in a place where pretty much everything fun is blocked. Anyway, I tried it a few weeks ago and it’s been working all the time. I haven’t been blocked since and the sites are 100% functional. With the Personal VPN everything works like it’s supposed to. Once connected you don’t even know it’s there.

School, work, and ISP networks are always updating their lists of banned sites to include new proxies as they find them. While a list of 20 proxies would probably get you access in the short term the reality is that in the long term they will end up blocked as well 90% of the time. If you need to be kept updated on new proxies becoming available your best bet is to join a yahoo/google group that mails out new proxy sites to it’s users regularly. One such group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/top_proxies/join

Alternatively the following proxies have only been promoted in the last week or so and as such are highly unlikely to be blocked by any network yet.

Proxy servers are blocked often, so your best bet is to search the free proxy server lists and try them individually until you find one that works at your university.

I have been using them for a couple years now and have to change servers every couple of month.

Right now I am currently using http://www.ipveil.com and http://www.ipveil.net When these get blocked, I’ll find new ones.
